Our History

Since its founding in 1969, the Minnesota College Professionals Association (MCPA) has served as a resource for networking, professional development and advocacy for higher education professionals across Minnesota. We aim to bring together staff and faculty across functional areas, and throughout our history have placed particular emphasis on equity and diversity issues as well as supporting professionals at all stages of their careers from graduate students to senior student affairs officers.

For most of its history, MCPA was affiliated with College Student Educators International (ACPA). The relationship between the two organizations remains friendly, but MCPA members voted to disaffiliate in 2015. MCPA is now the Minnesota College Professionals Association, an independent 501c3 nonprofit.

As MCPA has matured, leaders and members have all added their ideas and energy. Each new leader has taken the best of the past and added their own touches to a vibrant organization. Historical documents and material are on file at the Minnesota Historical Society in St. Paul.
